Electrical Safety

The National Electrical Code, The National Electrical Safety Code and a significant part of the OSHA Code is dedicated to electrical safety. It would be a gross oversimplification to simply state that everyone should comply with the code. However, Code Compliance is the Minimum Requirement and is a very good place to start improving the safety of your workplace. Most electrocutions and electrical shock injuries can be avoided by establishing safe operating procedures.

The codes are complicated and are often misinterpreted by well meaning people. OSHA has a history of being over zealous and unusual code interpretation. It is always a good practice to retain an independent forensic engineer to review internal safety procedures and to investigate all industrial accidents. Make sure that you have an accurate set of facts to work with. Surprises are always costly!
